Faith That Works....Spiritual Gifts
(Adapted from Margaret Shelton Lakeview-Pelham UMC)

We want you to share in joy of service with the body of Christ at Level Creek United Methodist Church. As followers of Jesus certain spiritual gifts have been given to us so that we may be more effective in serving each other and in carrying out the work of the church in our community and world. Level Creek seeks to help each of us find the area (s) of service that best fit with the plans that God has for us and His body that meets at Level Creek. Whether you are a new member or have been a part of this body for a long time you will want to seek to discover the areas of ministry that best fits you and your special gifts.

The first step in this is to take the free spiritual gifts survey by clicking HERE.

Next, meet with Rev. Michael and discuss your findings. Then we will match your gifts with areas of service that will best energize you and build up our congregation. You may call Rev. Michael (770-945-0205) if you would like to discuss any part of this.

A study of scripture reveals five basic principles of spiritual gifts.

     1. God imparts spiritual gifts according to his divine grace; they cannot be earned through human merit. Christians cannot earn spiritual gifts any more than they can earn the fruit of the Spirit, or for that matter, divine pardon.

2.God gives spiritual gifts according to his own discretion; he is not bound by our wishes. The apostle Paul wrote that a body cannot operate properly unless all the members of that body function harmoniously. Maturing Christians are not concerned with who is the most important member of the body. Each person has his unique service to perform. Christ exists as the head of the church, and every Christian is a vital member who fully qualifies as a candidate for the spiritual gifts of God’s choosing.

There are no unimportant spiritual gifts. Be grateful for the gift God has given you –don’t seek to be a copy of someone else. In the church there are no second-class Christians, and there are no super-Christians!

    3. God wills that every Christian exercise spiritual gifts; they are not limited to a few Believers. God intends every Christian believer to manifest spiritual gifts. He offers to each Christian the gifts best suited to his personality. Receiving spiritual gifts is part of being a Christian.

     4. God provides gifts for the purpose of ministry and service.  They are not given in order to draw attention to ourselves or to satisfy our ego.  God blesses us so that we may be in active ministry to others. Jesus taught that if we save our lives we lose them, but if we lose them in service to others, we truly find them.

     5. God intends that the ministry of the church be accomplished through spiritual gifts;  human talents are not adequate for spiritual ministry. Although spiritual gifts are freely given by God, we have a responsibility to use and develop these gifts.
